Our Story
Leslie and Arnold first met online in December 2021 -- he had just moved to Northern Virginia from Boston, and Leslie was living in the heart of northwest Washington, DC. They first met in person in February 2022. It wasn't instantly obvious that these two were a match: Arnold didn't know Wayne Gretzky was Canadian, which offended Leslie, and Arnold thought Leslie spent way too much time talking about BTS. But it wasn't long before they were spending most of their days together, enjoying the latest Korean zombie thriller hit (reluctantly, on Leslie's part), a hockey game with the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs (confusingly, on Arnold's part), hikes through Shenandoah, regular trips to Costco and H-Mart, and road trips to their hometowns of Toronto and Richmond.
Their lives took another big turn in early January 2023, when Leslie stumbled upon a grumpy looking black-and-tan Shiba Inu puppy on the Instagram account of Korean K9, her favourite dog rescue organization. A week later, they were driving to New York City to pick up Sejong, who would bring with him some tears, many laughs, stolen socks, and endless puppy love to their lives.
On Friday, October 13, 2023, Arnold and Leslie drove down to Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains. At one of the resort's outlooks, right at sunset, a group of acapella singers from the University of Virginia surprised Leslie with a private concert featuring some of her favourite songs—including "All I Have to Give" by the Backstreet Boys—as Arnold asked her to marry him. As you might have guessed, she said yes.
As Leslie and Arnold begin the next step of their lives together, they are excited to celebrate with their closest family and friends.
